The 2010-2011 Heating Season: We Will Weather It TogetherNo one knows what this heating season will bring ... but no matter what the weather, we want to remind all Long Islanders to conserve energy whenever possible. Make sure your heating system is running at peak efficiency and take the following steps to save even more. Weatherize your home with weather-stripping around doors and windows and insulation in crawl spaces and the attic. Seal air leaks on the exterior of your home with caulking. Install storm windows and doors. Insulate your water heater and hot water pipes. Seal and insulate ducts. Replace old windows or apply clear plastic film.Install a programmable thermostat. These "smart" devices automatically adjust room temperature settings to energy-saving levels while you're sleeping or away from home, eliminating wasteful energy usage. Buy Energy Star®-rated appliances. By choosing Energy Star for every appliance in your home, you can save up to 20% on your energy bills. That means weatherizing your homes paying less for your fuel can mean significant savings. We want to thank Long Islanders for exercising smart conservation measures, which have helped them to use less fuel and keep demand, and therefore prices, lower. And we encourage everyone to keep on conserving - not only will you benefit, but so will our earth! Fortunately, Oilheat has always been a fuel that comes with a host of value-added services that help you get the most out of every drop. (For more information on these services, click here.) Now, as always, we are working hard to help you get the most for your energy dollar. We thank you for choosing Oilheat. Historically, it has always delivered value, comfort and dependability that are second to none. Oilheat Goes Ultra-Low, Ultra-Clean!How low will Oilheat go? Its sulfur content will now be reduced by 99%, thanks to a recently passed New York State law. In July 2010, Governor Paterson signed a bill into law that will limit the sulfur content of heating oil to 15 parts per million, effective July 1, 2012. This marks the beginning of a new "clean and green fuel era" for the entire home heating oil industry. As the largest Oilheat consuming state in the nation, New York has finally set the standard for the rest of the nation to follow. What's this new law all about? "Reducing the levels of sulfur in heating fuel oil will improve the health of New Yorkers and our environment, and will help consumers cut their energy bills through reduced fuel use and lower maintenance costs," Governor Paterson said in a statement. "The energy, health and environmental benefits of this legislation are indisputable." This move has drawn widespread praise from environmentalists, health advocates and Oilheat dealers - and it's another great Oilheat benefit for Long Islanders to embrace! If you think the news about ultra-low sulfur Oilheat is good, it gets even better ... Ultra-low sulfur Oilheat can be blended with renewable biodiesel to create ultra-low sulfur Bioheat®, the cleanest burning home heating fuel available today. Available through several Oilheat dealers on Long Island, Bioheat is derived from plants and food byproducts and is produced here in America, so it can replace foreign oil. In New York State, residents can claim a direct income tax credit of up to 20 cents for each and every gallon of Bioheat they buy through January 1, 2012 - one cent for each percentage point of biodiesel in a gallon of their heating fuel. When used with the newest, energy-efficient heating systems, the latest eco-friendly fuels will make home heating greener than ever! |
